Signature Shoes – Nike LeBron 15 “Diamond Turf” Edition

The world of signature and endorsed basketball shoes continues to expand with more and more unique and specialized releases.  There are whole sites dedicated to tracking the release of new shoes by the major brands and players.

The Nike LeBron 15 “Diamond Turf” pays a homage to former pro football and baseball player Deion Sanders. It was released on February 3, 2018 via Nike’s SNKRS app as part of Nike’s “LeBron Watch Program” and debuted at the retail price of $200 a pair.

Way back in the 1990s, playing two professional sports was almost unheard-of. In 1993 Nike created a pair of shoes called the Nike Air Diamond Turf. They became the signature sneakers for Dion Sanders who played both for the Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Football League (NFL) – a rarity for any athlete at that time.

The Nike LeBron 15 has got some mean aesthetics, just like the original Diamond Turf. Its design obviously takes from the 1993 colorway (white, black and red). The upper is predominantly white, with red and black accents. It also has the original Diamond logo, as well as a broad mid-foot cross strap. Like the original Nike Air Diamond Turf, the Nike LeBron “Diamond Turf” gives a nod to athletes who think that if they are good enough to play two sports, then they should.

At the time of its release, the Nike LeBron 15 “Diamond Turf” was touted as a limited edition so it was available only at a handful of select stores. Despite the pretty steep pricing, these shoes were promptly sold out.

Adding to the interest factor to this shoe is that broad mid-foot cross strap mentioned earlier – it can be secured by way of its leather pull tab. The top of the pull tab/tongue features the Deion Sanders logo. When you remove the strap, the bottom of the pull tab features the stitched LeBron James logo. At the heel counter, on the other hand, you can see the “Nike” and its iconic “Swoosh” logo.

The Nike LeBron 15 “Diamond Turf” style factor goes all the way down even to its insoles whose design is inspired after a football field, along with the stitched OG LeBron logo at the heel.

The outsoles of the Nike LeBron 15 “Diamond Turf” has three sections or “pads”. The grooves on the outsole are thought to have a good grip whether you’re on the hardcourt or on the football field. The LeBron Lion Logo is at the heel of the outsole.

Since the Nike LeBron 15 “Diamond Turf” a limited edition sneaker, a lucky few were able to get their hands on these amazing kicks. Were you able to get these shoes? If you were, let us know in the comments section. If you haven’t gotten these shoes yet, do you plan to buy them from other sources?

Its amazing just how big the basketball shoe business has grown.  Every major player from now has their own signature line of shoes.  Nike and Adidas have been in the shoe endorsement game for years.  Under Armour made a big move into the signature shoe market with the signing of Steph Curry and the development of his line of shoes.

Basketball shoes are now their own fashion force and highly coveted by celebrities, young athletes and many people across a diverse range of lifestyles and backgrounds.
